Mount Pleasant was formerly a country path leading down to the fleet river. In the 18th century the site of this building was run by licensee Thomas Topham [1710c-1749], known as ‘the string man of Islington’, A former carpenter, Topham performed various feats of strength in London, the provinces and in Ireland. In 1749, suspecting his wife of infidelity, he stabbed her to death in a jealous rage then killed himself. From 1794 the Apple Tree tavern was much frequented by those newly released from cold bath fields prison.
Today, the building offers a contemporary feel yet steeped with history and period features. The offices are light and spacious with modern facilities such as a breakout areas and shower facilities.
Within a few minutes walk from Chancery Lane and Farringdon tube stations it is also on the doorstep of Exmouth Market with fantastic bars, restaurants and market stalls.
